Has the EHRC changed its mind on “reasonable accommodation”?

5 August 2011

Last month the EHRC announced that it was seeking permission from the ECtHR to intervene in the four cases about the right of Christians to manifest their beliefs, as we reported here. Now it seems it may be having second thoughts.

According to a report in Pink News, commissioner Angela Mason has said that the EHRC has come to a preliminary view that  the “reasonable accommodation” principle should not apply where the manifestation of belief involves conflict with the rights of others, as was at issue in the cases of Lillian Ladele and Gary McFarlane.

More on this apparent change of tack can be found in the Pink News article.
